FAQ
Frequently Asked Questions:
What kind of dyes are used in hand dyeing fiber and yarn?
We use acid dyes for dyeing protein fibers like wool and procion or fiber reactive dyes for plant fibers like cotton or linen. We also use natural dyes for both protein and plant fibers. Some bleeding of these dyes can occur, so it's important to swatch and block prior to making a final garment, especially when high contrast deep colors are being considered.
Will the colors match what I saw online when I ordered?
We do our best to accurately represent colors and fibers when photographing and displaying colors online. However, different monitors will show color differently, and color can vary slightly between dyelots.
All yarn is hand dyed by us. We dye in small batches and there can be some variation in color between skeins or braids, as this is the nature of hand dyed yarn and fiber. Alternating skeins is recommended for your finished project.
How do I block garments and accessories when using high contrast colors?
Use extremely cold water when soaking your project and consider using a color catcher in the water, then blocking as normal. Alternatively, steam blocking is an excellent option for projects with high contrast colors.
Can there be color bleeding from my fiber or yarn?
We do our best to fully rinse out any excess dye. However, some colors may bleed when you soak and block your project. We recommend soaking in cool to cold water, separately from all other items. This is especially important for the first wash, as this is when color is most likely to bleed.
Can I order a specific amount for my project?
