Welcome to The Maid and Spindle, where artistry and nature converge in the heart of the Pacific Northwest. I'm Steph Roark, a data storyteller by day and indie dyer by night. Drawing inspiration from the vibrant hues of nature and specializing in hand-dyed spinning fiber and yarn.

I first discovered the joy of crafting and creating with simple projects in crochet, quilting, and sewing, but soon found myself jumping down the rabbit hole for all things fiber arts. I took a leap into the world of fiber arts, knitting, spinning, weaving, and dyeing wool.

My journey has taken me far and wide, from Decatur, GA, where I pursued my college education, to the historic city of Leeds, England, and beyond to Iowa, Illinois, California, and now to Washington. Each place has left its mark on me, shaping my craft and inspiring my creations.

Nature has always been my greatest source of inspiration. There's magic in the colors and textures of the world around us – from the vibrant hues of flowers to the rugged beauty of geological formations.

I'm also drawn to the rich history of textile arts, particularly the importance of crafting throughout history for women seeking independence and self-reliance. I love feeling this modern connection with ancient crafting traditions.

Whether you're a seasoned spinner, knitter,  crocheter, or weaver, or just starting out on your crafting journey, I hope to provide you with the tools and materials you need to create something truly special.

Join us in celebrating the beauty and creativity of the fiber arts community!
